Serving as the co-president of the UW's Society of Professional Journalists chapter and in other mentorship roles, as well as internships in book publishing and internal communications, have given me experience in leadership, audience engagement and public communication.

Humanities First

Course Sequence / 2021-2022

Humanities First is a 3-quarter sequence for incoming freshmen at UW that introduces them to humanities-style thinking and a mentality that embraces exploration of questions that don't necessarily have a single right answer. The curriculum involves reading various texts around a single annual theme and translating that knowledge into public-facing projects, such as social media campaigns. Click to see a summary of projects, reflections, and essays from the year.

Humanities First intern-mentor

Internship / Fall - Spring 2022

I loved the community I found in the Humanities First course sequence as a freshman and sought to continue promoting the humanities with a group of my peers as a sophomore. We reached out to UW Humanities alumni and ultimately ran a career panel with 5 of them on Zoom for UW students interested in building a career from a (in my opinion) notoriously underrated humanities degree. While it took diligent work throughout the quarter, the result was worth it.

Honors Peer Mentoring Program

Summer 2021 - Spring 2022

I joined the program in spring 2021 when it was still in its early stages of revival, having been inactive for several years. As one of the Recruitment Coordinators, I worked on outreach and promotional advertising across campus to spread the word about the emerging program and get students to apply. The program received 60 applicants in its first quarter!

SPJ UW Vice President

Student leadership / Oct 2021 - present

I serve as the vice president of the Society of Professional Journalists, UW chapter and work with the other executive board members to plan events for students to learn about journalism. We host panels with professional journalists and seek to encourage networking and career development experiences. In 2021-22, we ran a headshot photo fundraiser in Red Square, a UW alumni journalism career panel, and a panel with 3 former journalists who transitioned to the fields of PR/internal communications.
